great reputation and clients (many dog breeders and showers) come from
all over the state. Dr. Johnson is the reptile vet with many years of

J - Excellent, laid back, loves herps. Dr. Ringler has several herps in his
office. He was recommended to me by the local nature center, The Greenburgh
Nature Center. It is where they take their animals. Not only is he good,
he does not overcharge for his services (03/04/01)
TS - A week earlier my turtle was treated for a prolapse by a vet who is
only in my areaa once a week. It was nearly 5 PM on July 3rd when I spoke
to Dr Ringer for the first time. Not only did he agree to wait so that I
could drive home from Brooklyn but he and another vet spent more than an
hour working with my turtle and educating me. From the perspective of a
healthcare professional I would rate Dr. Ringer 11 on a scale of 1-10. His
knoledge and committment are exemplary! His fee schedule is about 60% less
than that of the animal hospital in White Plains (not the emergency clinic).
Dr. Ringer is available 6 days and 2 evenings a week. I feel very fortunate
to have found someone who I can trust to care for my pets! (07/04/06)
R - I was moving from Buffalo, NY to North Miami Beach, Florida
with my Ball Python 'Slythe' in tow. I pit stopped at my Mom's house in
Westchester and when I went to bring him into the house he looked real
bad. After an hour he still wasn't moving. A google search to Herp
vet Connection helped me to find the phone number of Dobbs Ferry Animal
Hospital.
Dr Ringer and his staff (a guy whose name I never did get) were totally
caring and totally amazing. They instructed me as to what to do right
over the phone and asked me to call the next day to let them know the
outcome.
4 hours later Slythe was slithering around in his tank, thank goodness.
I can't express just how much I appreciate the kindness, compassion and
knowledge of Dr Ringer and his staff. (03/02/07)

Have had very good experiences there with several different Vets.
JD - Examined my blue-tongued skink. Very knowlegable, very
empathic, very responsible. Appointments desk says she is one of only two
"exotics" specialists on staff, although the board lists half a dozen.
The "herp" specialist the desk referred me to first seems to be a
specialist in rabbits and ferrets--she sure either doesn't know anything
about reptiles or doesn't care--handed my poor skink off to a very recent
graduate who is a specialist in nothing and gave me info even I know is
wrong. So if you are going to take a reptile to AMC, I'd advise you to
ask for Dr. Chen (10/06/03)
JD - [Adamcak] no longer a Animal Medical Center in NYC (10/06/03)
JS - Dr Quesenberry is the Head of the Exotic Animal Medicine
Service of The Animal Medical Center in NYC. I also found that she's
co-author of both Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and
Surgery and Avian Medicine and Surgery, and is the Scientific Editor of the
Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery. OUTSTANDING and very thorough vet!!!
(01/02/04)
JS - My experience at NYC Animal Medical Center echoes that of
jd--first herp specialist my skink was referred to seemed to know nothing
and care less, but Dr. Sue Chen was very empathic and did her best to
help. She also answers her own phone and picked up every time I called.

MD - Dr. Pilny was somewhat knowledgeable of my red ear slider. the
visit cost $80. to walk in the door the examination room was freezing cold
with no temperature adjustment -the nurse was cold.one thing that turned me
off was the dr. believed in manually pullin off dead scutes that had not
fallen off my turtles shell...... again $80. to walk in the door $100. for 3
shots for my red ear slider. who is 2 inches long. during the visit the dr.
said give me a call if doesnt eat for 3 days
my poor turtle DIED 2 HOURS later. the vet said nothing about the
possibility of him dying. the amount of cc 's he injected for a 2inch
turtle seemed overkill. and i will never know if this was the case.
(11/01/04)
MD - Dr. Pilny examined my red ear slider in a room so cold his
assistant was shivering. the visit was $80. the medication cost $100. there
was no forewarning here. my turtle measured 2 inches long! a wooden
splintered cotton swab was used to open my turtles mouth because there was
no intrument small enough to fit his little mouth. my turtle (gamago) died
2 hours after a visit to his office. he did not mention anything about my
turtle dying although i felt that he might (he had swollen eyes and trouble
breathing) ALTHOUGH i thought there was a chance he would pull through since
he was superfine the night before posing all cool as he leaned on a rock.
doc was sweet but that wasnt enough for me and my good buddy. i think part
of my $180. bill went towards the cost of 2 greeting cards, sent seperately,
one signed by the staff, one signed by Pilny and his asst. i have still not
told the office of my turtles death just to stop sending cards or mailings.
if i can be of more/less help or be more specific i am willing to. thanks
for posting this
gamago thanks you. (11/09/04)

Dr. Robert Moore examined my bearded dragon. He was full of information
on how to get her to eat her greens, and really put my mind at ease that I
was doing everything well. He owns several reptiles himself, so he really
knows what he is talking about. He had an excellent bedside manner, very
patient and took the time to answer all my questions (I had plenty as this
was my first bearded dragon). I would highly recommend him, because he
really cares for the well-being of the animals, first and foremost. He also
didnt try to sell me any unnecessary procedures, and really spent a lot of
time with me and my dragon to make sure that my mind was completely at ease
about her. I highly recommend him as a doctor, he is fantastic! (05/16/06)
DW - I had an great experience with these vets- Dr. Pilny
apparently does not work at this hospital any more. Dr. Wilson and Pesek
worked together for over a week to help my russian tortoise, Trooper, who
had accidentally eaten a poisonous plant. She was near death- the
doctors and the nurses worked tirelessly to save her. And she is now doing
wonderfully! The whole experience there was positive, the temperature
was comfortable, the facility was emaculate, and the seperate reptile
ward was equipped with full spectrum lights, thermometers, tanks,
everything a reptile would need. They only work with exotic pets here, and
were extremely knowlegable as well as having caring bedside manors. I
really appreciate everything they did for me and Trooper. (07/07/07)

Comments: There are other vets in this practice but I have only dealt with
Dr. Grayson. He treated a leopard gecko of mine for a rectal prolapse. It
was an emergency case and he made sure to see us as soon as we walked in. I
have been to many other herp vets but none knew the correct husbandry for
leopard gecko's so well. He asked for detailed background information and
made me feel totally comfortable leaving my gecko with him during the
procedure.
His prices are substantially lower than other hospitals and he is eager to
answer any questions or concers during the visit and afterwards.
I would not go to another vet after seeing him. (01/24/05)
