KN -
Dr. Sontag is INCREDIBLE!! My leopard gecko recently
fractured his spine, and when any of the vets here in Madison would have put
him down, she decided to treat him. She went above and beyond the call of
duty to physically stabilize him, gave him additional medicine to help
the symptoms, and treated him like he was one of hers. She has many
reptiles of her own, including leopard geckos (don't know what else). She
is extremely nice, will take the time to listen, and cares SO MUCH
about the animals. The two-hour drive was absolutely worth it. She saved
Magellan's life. (11/17/02)
G - We rescued a Green Iguana from a bad situation. Poor living
conditions, bad diet, etc. I found Dr. Sontag on this page and was
impressed by the writeup she was given.. she worked with our new family
member today and did a full blood workup and x-rays.. she had so much
calcium loss that three of her legs were broken. Dr. Sontag was patient,
medicated her, set the legs and kept her in the office most of the day,
had us come back for her in the afternoon.. not only was she great, her
staff was wonderful and the cost was $100 less than another vet quoted
me for just sedation and x-ray. If you are anywhere within driving
distance she is worth the trip! (04/11/06)

If I began to list the animals I have taken to Dr. Ruch over
the years, I would steal the page. I can not say enough about Dr. Ruch
that would make him not seem too good to be true. He is a vet that
does care about each and every animal that walks in the door. A long
time supporter of Small Scale Reptile Rescue, Dr. Ruch has aided me in
more emergencies than I can count. From the common MBD in iguanas, to the
need of emergency health certs to transfer Crocodilians across state
lines, to his assistance with animals taken in from drug raids to ensure
nothing extra is stashed inside. Amputations, abcesses, infections,
URIs, impactions. Dr. Ruch has been there. IF he doesn't know how to
do it himself, he will not hesitate to consult with those around longer.
He does take many continuing education classes in reptile medicine as
well. (09/22/07)

Dr. Gibbons is a very caring and thorough veterinarian. He
takes time with each animal, and was great with my shy bird. When he came
in I already had her out on my hand. He allowed her to get comfortable
with him and even did part of the exam with her perched on his hand
(other vets would have toweled her right away). I have been consideiring
getting a reptile and he was very helpful in guiding my decisions about
what might be suitable for me. He has extensive knowledge and clearly
not only has lots of experience with reptiles but also holds a personal
interest in them. With my bird he explained everything well, addressed
my concerns, and gave me options about what we could do. I think the
overall cost for the health checkup on my bird was a little more than I
have paid at my local vet clinic, but it was well worth it. He clearly
knew a lot more and told me things I never knew about my bird despite me
getting annual exams for years at different vets in Milwaukee. H!
e was very thorough and treated both my bird and me with respect. I
have found my new bird vet (and herp vet once I decide what I am going
to get!) As of May 2007, Dr. Gibbons is the only board
certified avain vet in Wisconsin (maybe even all surrounding states?)

While Dr. Hook is a younger vet, he has a special interest in
reptiles. Many of his staff are also keepers. Dr. Hook has been a
great supporter of my rescue and has had experience with many new issues
in reptile keeping and health because of it. Both Dr. Hook and 2 of
his CVT's take extra continuing education classes on reptile health.
Supported by a staff of reptile hobbyists, Dr. Hook will continue to grow
his practice with the health of reptiles in mind. (09/22/07)

TH - Dr. Beatty is a wonderful doctor. He has done all in his
power to help every snake in my collection. He has even gone out of his
way to get one of my special needs snakes to a specialist across the
state. Very gentle and knowlegable, Dr. Beatty truly cares about the
creatures he takes care of. (04/22/05)

J -Examined adult male iguana. $150.00 including blood pannels,
x-rays for bone density, fecal exam, "x-ray interpretation," and office
visit. All these tests are not necesary unless ig is candidate for
MIB. Normally would be much much cheaper without tests. Vet clinic is
reputable, I was refered to Dr. Kowitz by another vet that didn't know
what the hell he was doing. (04/30/03)

MW - Very easy to find, right off I-39 in Central Wisconsin. Member of ARAV.
Examined a 5 month old Leopard Gecko. He spent an enormous amount
of time (~40 minutes) just giving a checkup - was very gentle with her and
thorough at the same time. He also did a fecal exam and administered a shot
for tapeworms. Very good experience overall and I had to go back for
another problem a week later and they took me right in and were willing to
work with my schedule. Great experience overall and he asked all of the
essential questions about my husbandry practices that showed he knew what he
was talking about. (06/25/03)

KM - I have 2 iguanas Guy and Baby. He does a through examination
on the iguanas mouth, body, skin condition. He takes his time with the
owner as will, answering all questions, which none seem to be trival to
him. He futher does follow up calls to see how the patient is doing. He
truly enjoys working with herps you can see it in his demeaner. My
iguanas and my bearded dragon have a fecal float test and a vet check once
a year. They do go in if I feel there is something that is not right. I
could go on, but I would run out of space. If you need to contact me
feel free. (08/25/01)
AJ -
I have been working with Dr. Semandel for about 5 years with
my wide array of exotic animals. He will examine anything, from the
smallest gecko to the largest monitor, and does so with an interest that
can only be surpassed by the owner of the herp. All of my animals have
been seen by Dr. Semandel, and I'm so confident in his ability, I now
drive an hour to get to his clinic if I have a sick dragon. My animals
include 2 adult bearded dragons, 2 juvenile bearded dragons, 2 baby
bearded dragons, 1 spotted turtle, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. (02/01/06)
WP - Have taken my Russian Tortoise to see Dr. Semandel once and
it proved that he is worth to see again. He did not try to sell me off
with "PETCO" caresheets, he knows his herps and was helpful and
welcoming to any and all questions I had. I would highly suggest this fine
vet through my experience and those I've known from others for ANYONE in
Southeastern Wisconsin. (04/05/07)
